Cheriyal Scroll Painting is a traditional painting idiom from the south Indian state of Telangana. The paintings are painted in a narrative format, often in scrolls, much like a film roll or a comic strip; or in the contemporary context, in singular story panels, like this one. The style is largely used to depict stories from Indian mythology.
This artwork depicts Shri Krishna lifting mount Govardhan, to save the resdients of Braj from the wrath unleashed by the god of weather, Indra.
